Special Olympics "Tip-A-Cop"

Laguna Beach Police Department employees will join Special Olympics athletes at Ruby's Diner on July 23 for a fundraiser to benefit the organization's Orange County region.

Officers and Special Olympics athletes will meet and greet customers, help take and deliver drink and food orders and interact with restaurant guests.  Customers are encouraged to "tip the cop" for their service with a tax-deductible donation, 100% of which will go to the Special Olympics program. This donation is in addition to the customary tip left for the restaurant's server.

Police will have several displays at Ruby's, including a car, motorcycle, K-9 unit ("Ranger", a Belgian Malinois), and a mini jail.  There will also be fingerprinting and face painting stations, along with a balloon artist.

Laguna and other police agencies have a longstanding relationship with the Special Olympics.
